Introduction The prevalence of low back pain (LBP) among secondary school students is increasing. The magnitude of the problem is not well quantified. Evidence shows LBP in adolescents can be a significant risk factor for back pain in adulthood. ⋯ Conclusion We noted a high prevalence of LBP among adolescents. LBP had a significantly high prevalence among girls and in the presence of factors like a heavy school satchel and watching TV. LBP in adolescence is a significant risk factor in developing back pain in adulthood, and our findings highlight the need for awareness of LBP among stakeholders like educationists, policymakers, medical professionals and parents given the possible detrimental effects on adolescent children.

Tattoos have become increasingly popular worldwide. While tattoos carry a minimal risk of complications, previous reports have located malignant melanoma hidden within tattoos. We present a case of an atypical intraepidermal melanocytic proliferation masked by a large tattoo in a 39-year-old Caucasian male. ⋯ We demonstrate that a careful examination of tattooed skin leads to the early detection of atypical melanocytic proliferations. We present an extensive review of literature related to the relationship between tattoos and skin cancer, as well as public health recommendations for tattoo artists and individuals seeking to obtain tattoos. We urge a vigilant examination of tattooed skin and encourage collaboration between dermatologists and tattoo artists in promoting the detection of suspicious lesions prior and following tattooing.

Introduction Basal/bolus insulin (BBI) is superior to sliding scale insulin (SSI) for diabetic patients admitted to hospital general medicine and surgery services, but little has been published on strategies to promote the utilization of BBI by resident physicians. New approaches that promote the effective management of hyperglycemia in hospitals need to be developed. Materials and methods A prospective study with historical controls was conducted to evaluate the impact of a pocket insulin dosing guide on the diabetes management practices of internal medicine resident physicians at the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine, rotating on general medicine. ⋯ Conclusion The SIU pocket insulin dosing guide significantly increased the utilization of BBI, decreased SSI orders, and improved hospital glycemic control for patients with diabetes mellitus. However, over half of the general medicine patients were still managed with SSI despite the pocket insulin dosing guides. Conversion of the insulin dosing guide to a smartphone app might improve utilization of the protocol and further increase the use of BBI for inpatient diabetes management by internal medicine house staff.

Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are slow-growing and benign tumors, representing less than 1% of all intracranial neoplasms. They are predominantly located in the lateral ventricles in children, and in the fourth ventricle in adults. Primary CPP over sellar regions is extremely rare. ⋯ CPP is a rare tumor without specific clinical patterns or imaging findings. Therefore, pre-operative differential diagnosis is difficult for this kind of tumor with complete separation from ventricular system. An ETS for total tumor resection provided effective treatment.

Introduction A reoperation for a cubital tunnel syndrome is not uncommon. Patients often complain of sensorimotor symptoms in the ulnar nerve distribution after their primary surgery. The documented etiologies for such a phenomenon include a "new" kinking of the distal ulnar nerve and a "new" compression of the ulnar nerve by the fascial septum in between or tendinous bands over the muscles of the forearm. ⋯ However, with the extension of the elbow, a degree of angulation of the proximal ulnar nerve was observed due to its compact connection with the deep fascia. Conclusion Our study revealed that there is an intimate relationship between the ulnar nerve and the deep fascia of the forearm. Since the ulnar branches to the overlying flexor carpi ulnaris pierce this deep structure, a care should be given to its anatomical course during surgery in this region to prevent denervation of the muscle.
