Sick sinus syndrome is characterized by disturbance of its automatic function and (or) sinu-atrial conductivity caused by organic or vegetative defects. Diagnostic algorithm includes: clinical evidence, ECG, Holter monitoring, electrophysiological investigation, pharmacological test. Treatment is pharmacological and surgical.

Current literature on acute respiratory distress-syndrome (ARDS) is reviewed with characteristics of the terms "acute pulmonary lesion" and "ARDS". Clinical and x-ray classifications of ARDS are presented. ⋯ Use of mechanical ventilation of the lungs in ARDS patients is physiologically validated. Much attention is payed to application of natural and artificial surfactants.

For the last decade understanding of sepsis pathogenesis has changed much. A significant role pathogenesis of sepsis is assigned to systemic inflammatory reaction provoking imbalance in different links of antiinfection protection. Antibiotics remain the only available group of drugs which can improve prognosis in sepsis. The authors consider general principles of empiric choice of antibiotics in sepsis and its complications.
