This study included 1,416 graduates from the four medical schools in Norway, during the period 1978-81. The purpose was to determine which factors potentially influence choice of specialty. ⋯ Female physicians took no more time than their male colleagues did to become specialists. It is also concluded that the quality of the undergraduate teaching of the different specialties had little or no impact on future choice of career.
