Comparative Study[Electronic medical records in somatic hospitals--availability and clinical use].
Despite the fact that 53 out of 72 Norwegian hospitals (as of January 2001) have introduced electronic medical records systems (EMR), very few evaluation or comparisons between such systems have been published. ⋯ There is a substantial discrepancy between the reported use of EMR systems and the functions available in the systems. The causes are not known, but lack of computer literacy is a less probable cause.

Case Reports[Severe ethylene glycol poisoning treated wtih fomepizole (4-methylpyrazole)].
Poisoning with ethylene glycol causes severe metabolic acidosis and renal failure, and is potentially lethal if not treated rapidly. Until recently the standard therapy for this poisoning has been bicarbonate to counteract the metabolic acidosis, inhibition of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) with ethanol to prevent the production of toxic metabolites and haemodialysis to remove ethylene glycol and its toxic metabolites. The new potent inhibitor of ADH, 4-methylpyrazole (fomepizole), has recently been approved for the treatment of methanol and ethylene glycol poisonings. ⋯ Ethylene glycol poisonings may be treated effectively with fomepizole without haemodialysis.
