Case Reports[Subarachnoidal haemorrhage with spectrophotometric detection of bilirubin in the spinal fluid as the only pathological result].
In the examination of a patient with acute headache in which subarachnoid haemorrhage is suspected, a CT scan of the brain should be performed without delay. If the CT scan does not confirm subarachnoid haemorrhage, the next step is a lumbar puncture. This should not take place before twelve hours have elapsed from the start of the headache, so as to allow for the formation of sufficient amounts of bilirubin to be detected in a possible subarachnoid haemorrhage. ⋯ Spectrophotometric examination of spinal fluid has a high sensitivity rate. The test is simple to perform, is not expensive, and is within the scope of most laboratories. We present our method for spectrophotometric investigation of spinal fluid, along with practical advice.

The department of neurosurgery at the University Hospital of North Norway has treated intracranial aneurysms since 1986. This study was conducted in order to evaluate outcomes after the introduction of endovascular therapy in 2000. ⋯ The university hospital has treated an increasing proportion of patients with intracranial aneurysms with endovascular coiling after introduction of this method in 2000. The outcomes presented in this study equal those published from international multicentre trials.

[Research positions for junior physicians as research resource].
Positions for junior doctors specially designated to research serve to promote this mission at university hospitals. ⋯ In hospital research positions, at least 50 % of doctors' working time should be allocated to well-defined and sufficiently ambitious research projects. The major hospitals intend to establish more such positions. The Norwegian Medical Association should support this initiative by making these positions attractive for the institutions as well as for doctors, not least by giving the highest priority to medical research in its statements, negotiating stances and strategies.
