Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparative study of surgical and conservative treatments for fifth metatarsal base avulsion fractures (type I) in young adults or athletes.
This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects and complications of minimally invasive surgery in treating displaced avulsion fractures (2-3 mm) of fifth metatarsal base zone I in young adults or athletes. ⋯ In young adults or athletes with displaced avulsion fractures of fifth metatarsal base zone I, closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation provides anatomical stable fixation and early mobilization.

Reverse shoulder arthroplasty for the treatment of acute complex proximal humeral fractures: Influence of greater tuberosity healing on the functional outcomes.
To investigate the influence of greater tuberosity healing on the functional outcomes of reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) for the treatment of acute complex proximal humeral fractures (PHFs), and to investigate the influence of patient- and surgery-related factors in the healing of the greater tuberosity. ⋯ In spite of expecting good functional outcome with low complication rate after RSA for acute PHFs, the influence of greater tuberosity healing on shoulder function could not be demonstrated. The presence of comorbidities, but not age or gender, negatively influenced the healing of the greater tuberosity.

Comparative StudyAutologous US-guided PRP injection versus US-guided focal extracorporeal shock wave therapy for chronic lateral epicondylitis: A minimum of 2-year follow-up retrospective comparative study.
To compare the efficacy of two independent groups of patients treated with ultrasound (US)-guided extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) therapy and with US-guided injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for chronic lateral epicondylitis (LE) with a minimum of 2-year follow-up. ⋯ Both PRP injection and ESW therapy are feasible and safe options for the treatment of chronic LE with low risk of complications and with good long-term follow-up results. US-guided PRP injection has quick efficacy when compared with US-guided focal ESW therapy.

Treatment of implant-related methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis with vancomycin-loaded VK100 silicone cement: An experimental study in rats.
The purpose of this present study is to investigate the efficacy of vancomycin-loaded VK100 silicone cement drug delivery system in the treatment of implant-related methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) osteomyelitis in rats. ⋯ vVK100 polymer, as a local antibiotic delivery system, seems to be an effective method for the treatment of implant-related chronic MRSA osteomyelitis.
