[The trace element profile in children from various goiter-endemic areas of the Arkhangelsk Region].
The paper presents the results of studying the trace element status in residents from various goiter-endemic areas of the Arkhangelsk Region. It is concluded that endemic goiter in the study areas is determined by not only iodine deficiency, but also by the imbalance of thyroid-specific elements. ⋯ Moreover, an iodine-sufficient area is characterized by the lower levels of Ca, Mg, and Mn. Trace element imbalance is accounted for by the biogeochemical features of the areas under study.

[An academic process and children's health status in the Far North].
The authors examined 210 children aged 11-12 years for the impact of an academic process on the mental and physical health of pupils. The children were from two schools: a school with a physicomathematical bias and a general educational school. ⋯ The mental and physical health has been found to be currently characterized by negative trends. However, the situation is much worse at the physicomathematical school than that at the general educational one.

The paper gives the results of studying the adaptability and spare capacities of children, by evaluating the functional state of the major systems of their organism and the mental state of a child. The findings suggest that the schoolchildren have low functional and spare capacities. The children's dysadaptation to environmental conditions was followed by reductions in the tension index of regulatory systems, in the functional capacities of the pupils, and in the functional state of the central nervous system. Most children with poor adaptation and disturbances of adaptive mechanisms were observed to have no chronic diseases, which required measures to reveal adaptive disorders and to correct their health status.
