Exploring the non-linear relationship between alcohol consumption and depression in an elderly population in Gangneung: the Gangneung Health Study.
The purpose of this study was to examine a J-shaped relationship between alcohol consumption and depression among the elderly in South Korea. ⋯ This study confirms a J-shaped (i.e., curvilinear) relationship between alcohol consumption and depression among elderly South Koreans, similar to that frequently found in studies of Western-based samples. The findings of this study, therefore, imply the applicability of the J-shaped relationship hypothesis for non-Western society samples and within different cultural contexts.

Differentially expressed proteins in nitric oxide-stimulated NIH/3T3 fibroblasts: implications for inhibiting cancer development.
Recent evidence shows that nitric oxide (NO) may exhibit both pro-cancer and anti-cancer activities. The present study aimed to determine the differentially expressed proteins in NO-treated NIH/3T3 fibroblasts in order to investigate whether NO induces proteins with pro-cancer or anti-cancer effects. ⋯ Most proteins differentially expressed by NOC-18 are involved in inhibiting cancer development.
