Meta AnalysisEpidemiology and Outcome of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests during the COVID-19 Pandemic in South Korea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses.
To evaluate the effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) outcomes in South Korea, we conducted systematic review and meta-analysis. ⋯ During the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea, the incidence of at-home OHCA increased and AED use decreased among OHCA patients. However, survival and favorable neurological outcomes did not significantly differ from before the pandemic. This insignificant effect of the pandemic on OHCA in South Korea could be attributed to the slow increase in patient count in the early days of the pandemic. Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Korean Congenital Heart Disease Patients: A Nationwide Age- and Sex-Matched Case-Control Study.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a known risk factor for acquired cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, available evidence on CHD is limited mostly to Western populations. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of vascular events and all-cause mortality in Korean patients with CHD and to further corroborate CHD as a predictor of vascular events and all-cause mortality. ⋯ In conclusion, this nationwide study demonstrates that Korean patients with CHD have a high incidence of comorbidities, vascular events, and mortality. CHD has been established as an important predictor of cardiovascular events. Further studies are warranted to identify high-risk patients with CHD and related factors to prevent vascular events.

Risk of Dental Discoloration and Enamel Dysplasia in Children Exposed to Tetracycline and Its Derivatives.
To examine the risk of dental abnormalities after exposure to tetracycline and its derivatives (TCs) in Korean children. ⋯ Short-term exposure to TCs does not appear to increase the risk of dental abnormalities in children aged 0-7 and 0-12 years. Restrictions on the use of TCs in children aged 8-12 years, in some countries, may warrant consideration.

Case ReportsHeart Transplantation in a Patient with Complex Congenital Heart Disease, Physiologic Single Lung, and Severe Pulmonary Hypertension.
Here we report a case of successful heart transplantation (HT) in a patient with high risk on HT due to her complex congenital heart disease and its consequent complications; physiologic single lung and severe pulmonary arterial hypertension. HT was successfully performed in our patient using meticulous perioperative management techniques, such as control of collateral vessels, appropriate donor selection, pulmonary vasodilator therapy, post-transplant extracorporeal membranous oxygenation support, and atrial septostomy for right ventricular unloading.

Causes and Diagnostic Usefulness of Tryptase Measurements for Anaphylaxis in a Korean Tertiary Care General Hospital.
The causes of anaphylaxis in a general hospital may differ from those occurring in a community setting. Underlying diseases in admitted patients and vague presenting symptoms can make the diagnosis of anaphylaxis difficult. Serum tryptase measurements may provide valuable evidence for diagnosing anaphylaxis in admitted patients. ⋯ The triggers of anaphylaxis in a Korean tertiary care hospital were diverse, including beta-lactam antibiotics, anticancer medications, contrast medias, eperisone, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, rocuronium, sugammadex, and wheat. Tryptase measurements provided valuable evidence for diagnosis, and the sensitivity of algorithm criteria was superior to that of the abnormal value criteria.
