Multicenter StudyPediatric Age-Adjusted Shock Index as a Predictor of Mortality by Sex Disparity in Pediatric Trauma: A Pan-Asian Trauma Outcome Study.
There has been no report of sex-specific, pediatric age-adjusted shock index (PASI) for pediatric trauma patients in previous studies. We aimed to determine the association between the PASI and in-hospital mortality of pediatric trauma patients and whether this association differs depending on sex. ⋯ Abnormal PASI is associated with increased in-hospital mortality in pediatric trauma patients. The prediction power of PASI for in-hospital mortality was maintained only in male patients.

Early Enteral Nutrition and Sepsis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury: A Propensity Score Matched Cohort Study Based on the MIMIC-III Database.
We aimed to analyze the optimal timing of enteral nutrition (EN) in the treatment of sepsis and its effect on sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI.). ⋯ EEN is associated with decreased risk of SA-AKI, and this beneficial effect may be proportionally mediated by IVF volume.

Effective Timing of Introducing an Inpatient Smoking Cessation Program to Cancer Patients.
We aimed to identify factors influencing smoking cessation success among cancer patients registered in an inpatient smoking cessation program at a single cancer center. ⋯ Smoking cessation intervention must be considered when establishing a treatment plan immediately after a cancer diagnosis among smokers.

Fabrication of 3D-Printed Implant for Two-Stage Ear Reconstruction Surgery and Its Clinical Application.
Ear reconstruction is one of the most difficult areas in the field of reconstructive surgery. Due to limitations of the current practice, a novel method of auricular reconstruction is needed. Major advancements in three-dimensional (3D) printing technique have rendered the process of ear reconstruction more favorable. Herein, we present our experience in designing and clinically using 3D implants in both 1st and 2nd stage ear reconstruction surgery. ⋯ The authors were able to design, fabricate, and apply patient-specific 3D-printed ear implants for 1st and 2nd stage ear reconstruction surgeries. This design, combined with 3D bioprinting technique, may be a future alternative for ear reconstruction.

Umbelliferone Ameliorates Hepatic Steatosis and Lipid-Induced ER Stress in High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice.
Among the characteristics of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), hepatic steatosis is due to excessive fat accumulation and causes liver damage and lipotoxicity, which are associated with insulin resistance, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and apoptosis. Umbelliferone (UMB) has various powerful pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, the mechanism of action in hepatic steatosis and lipid-induced ER stress is still unclear. Thus, the efficacy of UMB in hepatic steatosis and palmitate (PA)-induced hepatocellular lipotoxicity was evaluated in the present study. ⋯ UMB supplementation ameliorated hepatic steatosis and improved insulin resistance by inhibiting lipid accumulation and regulating ER stress. These findings strongly suggest that UMB may be a potential therapeutic compound against NAFLD.
