Case ReportsRecurrent Acute Limb Ischemia and Successful Treatment with Endovascular Thrombectomy.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolic events; however, many patients with AF are noncompliant with medication regimens, which increases said risk substantially. Suboptimal health literacy presents significant hurdles to compliance with medical treatment. ⋯ Both events were successfully treated with endovascular thrombectomy. This case study not only showcases the efficacy of the latest endovascular technologies, but also draws attention to the importance of strict patient medication adherence in AF and the effects that health literacy can have on said adherence.

Randomized Controlled TrialCumulative Effects of Concurrent Inspiratory Muscle Training and Postural Correction Bands on Older Individuals Community Dwellers: A Randomized Study.
Posture correction bands (PCBs) have been proposed as aids to help chest expansion and to enhance respiratory function. However, the impact of PCBs on community-based older individuals engaged in inspiratory muscle training (IMT) at home remains unclear. ⋯ This study was registered with the Clinical Research Information Service, part of the World Health Organization's International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (Clinical Research Information Service No. KCT0008075).

Evaluation of the Current Urgency-Based Lung Allocation System in Korea with Simulation of the Eurotransplant Lung Allocation Score.
Due to the shortage of lung donors relative to the number of patients waiting for lung transplantation (LTx), more than one-third of patients on the waitlist have died without receiving LTx in Korea. Therefore, the importance of fair and effective allocation policies has been emphasized. This study investigated the characteristics of the current urgency-based allocation system in Korea by simulating the Eurotransplant lung allocation score (ET-LAS) using a nationwide multi-institutional registry for LTx in Korea. ⋯ Simulation of the ET-LAS with KOTRY data showed that the Korean urgency definition may not allocate lungs by urgency, especially for patients in non-status 0; therefore, it needs to be revised.

The Association of Smoking Status with Diabetic Microvascular Complications in Korean Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.
Few studies have investigated the association between smoking and microvascular complications in the Asian population with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We aimed to investigate the relationship between smoking status and microvascular complications in Korean patients with T2DM. ⋯ Male smokers had higher odds of having overall diabetic microvascular complications, including neuropathy. However, the odds of having retinopathy were significantly lower among current smokers. More attention and research are needed regarding the increased risk of retinopathy development in ex-smokers who have recently stopped smoking after a long history of smoking.
