Autoimmune and immunogenetic profile of patients with optic neuritis in a population-based cohort.
Optic neuritis (ON) is an inflammatory optic neuropathy, where the genetic and autoimmune dependency remains poorly characterized. ⋯ ON patients had a general susceptibility to autoimmunity and two were MOG-IgG positive. HLA-DQB1*06:02 and HLA-DRB1*15:01 were associated with the presence of OCB in ON patients.

Short transverse myelitis in Chinese patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders.
Short transverse myelitis (STM) is considered uncommon in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). Poor recognition of STM occurring in NMOSD may lead to increased delay in diagnosis and appropriate treatment. ⋯ Initial STM does not exclude consideration of NMOSD diagnosis.

Mitochondrial leukoencephalopathies: A border zone between acquired and inherited white matter disorders in children?
There is emerging evidence implicating mitochondrial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of acquired demyelinating disorders such as multiple sclerosis. On the other hand, some of the primary mitochondrial disorders such as mitochondrial leukoencephalopathies exhibit evidence of neuroinflammation on MRI. The inter-relationship between mitochondrial disorders and episodic CNS inflammation needs exploration because of the therapeutic implications. ⋯ Clinical presentations of mitochondrial leukoencephalopathy often mimic an acquired demyelinating disorder. The therapeutic implications of these observations require further exploration.

Review Comparative StudyComparison of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-antibody disease and AQP4-IgG-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) when they co-exist with anti-NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor encephalitis.
Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-antibody (ab) disease and AQP4-IgG-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) can co-exist with anti-NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor encephalitis (NMDARe). ⋯ Compared with NMOSD, MOG-ab disease may more commonly co-exist with NMDARe. MNOS patients respond better to steroids and IVIg than do ANOS patients during attacks associated with NMDARe.

Correlation between the corpus callosum index and brain atrophy, lesion load, and cognitive dysfunction in multiple sclerosis.
The corpus callosum index (CCI) can be easily and reliably obtained from conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and has been proposed as a possible marker of brain atrophy in MS. However, further validation of its correlation with volumetric measurements is still warranted. ⋯ The findings support the validity of the CCI as an easy-to-obtain marker of brain atrophy, lesion load, and cognitive dysfunction in patients with MS.
