Transoral robotic surgery alone for oropharyngeal cancer: an analysis of local control.
To evaluate local control following transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with the da Vinci Surgical System (Intuitive Surgical Inc) as a single treatment modality for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). ⋯ As the only modality used for treatment of pathologically low-risk OSCCs, TORS provides high local control and is associated with low surgical morbidity.

Multicenter StudyAnalysis of pediatric direct laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy operative flow: opportunities for improved safety outcomes.
To study pediatric direct laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy operative flow. ⋯ Although a common pediatric otolaryngology procedure, direct laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy operative flow is ideal in less than half the cases. Areas for improvement include obtaining intravenous access, reducing operating room personnel turnover, verifying equipment, and educating staff on operating room setup. To our knowledge, this is the first observational quality improvement initiative in otolaryngology to study the operative flow of a specific procedure and provide insight into areas of patient risk and opportunities for improvement in efficiency.

Comparative StudyImpact of elective neck dissection vs observation on regional recurrence and survival in cN0-staged patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the upper aerodigestive tract.
To evaluate the impact of elective selective neck dissection vs observation on regional recurrence and survival in cN0-staged patients after transoral microscopic laser surgery of squamous cell carcinomas of the upper aerodigestive tract. ⋯ A wait-and-see approach is justified in patients with early-stage disease. Elective selective neck dissection should be considered in patients with advanced cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract. Because of selection effects, the possible conclusions of this study are limited. There is a definite need for prospective, randomized studies.
