Comparative Study[Profile of the Emergency demand and influence of televised soccer games on an extra-hospital center in the Tafalla health care district. Navarre, Spain].
The demand placed on both hospital as well as extrahospital emergency care units currently continues to increase at a growing rate. This study has a twofold objective: the quantification and study of the personal characteristics of the users who are demanding emergency care and assessing whether televised soccer games have any bearing on the utilization of emergency care services. ⋯ A high degree of use of the extrahospital emergency care units has been found to exist, a major part of the demand being concentrated at highly specific points in time. A major degree of care is provided to those visiting from outside their own healthcare districts. Television soccer game broadcasts is associated with the greater utilization of the emergency care services.

Comparative Study[Factors related to perceived poor health condition or poor quality of life among those over 65 years of age].
Nowadays, in the developed countries, a long lifespan is no longer the exception to the rule, however there are still many people who even today do not manage to age with a good quality of life. The objectives of this study are, first of all, to contribute to a better knowledge of the main factors which have an impact on the quality of life and the perceived health condition of those over age 65 and, secondly, to determine what advantages and disadvantages involved in each one of the tools for gauging health and quality of life as compared to the other two tools employed. ⋯ Mental health and functioning capacity are the factors which have the greatest bearing on the perception of health condition and quality of life of individuals over age 65. Given that the three tools used have led to similar results, the EuroQol has advantages to offer due to its short length, including an overall evaluation by dimensions.

[Helsinki Declaration VI: a necessary revision, but sufficient?].
With the fifth amendment of the Declaration of Helsinki (Edinburg, 2000), the World Medical Association took a fundamental step forward in the history of the document, after years of internal and external debate. The Declaration was firstly adopted in 1964 as a clear intent to show that the medical profession could manage the ethical control of medical research with human beings. However, several disgraced episodes, like the Tuskegee Syphilis study, showed the insufficiency of such a system. ⋯ But, though formally important, the Declaration hardly had an impact on real-world terms, because it assumed an old-fashion logic of clinical research failing to incorporate the modern methodological developments. The amendment could not be put off longer. In the present paper, I analyse the main shortcomings of the Declaration before the 2000 amendment and to what extent the fifth revision has corrected them.
