Long-term efficiency of skin stretching and a topical corticoid cream application for unretractable foreskin and phimosis in prepubertal boys.
To evaluate the long-term efficacy of topical application of a potent corticoid cream and skin stretching in the treatment of unretractable foreskin, pinpoint phimosis, balanopreputial adhesions and lichen sclerosus in prepubertal boys. ⋯ This study has shown that local application of a potent corticoid cream and skin stretching is a safe, simple and effective long-term treatment for all types of unretractable foreskin in prepubertal boys. The efficiency of the treatment was not related to the age of the patient or the type of unretractable foreskin.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyTopical and long-acting local anesthetic for prostate biopsy: a prospective randomized placebo-controlled study.
To determine the efficacy of intrarectal lidocaine gel alone and a combination of lidocaine gel with 2 different longer-acting local anesthetic (LA) agents that were injected into the periprostatic area before transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. ⋯ The combination of intrarectal lidocaine gel and periprostatic longer-acting LA agents significantly reduces the pain related to prostate biopsy, whereas intrarectal lidocaine gel administration alone does not reduce pain. Thus, administration of the periprostatic longer-acting LA agents alone is adequate.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of three analgesic treatment protocols for pain management during extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.
In this prospective and randomized study, we aimed to compare the efficacy of a eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA) cream, diclofenac sodium (DS) and EMLA in combination with DS (EMLA+DS) for pain management during extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). ⋯ DS appears to be more efficient than EMLA in reducing pain during ESWL. Using EMLA+DS has no superiority in relieving pain compared to DS-only treatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyIs only perianal anesthesia with lidocaine-prilocaine cream sufficient to decrease the pain during transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy? A prospective randomized study.
To determine the optimal place to apply the local anesthetic agent and to investigate the efficacy of lidocaine-prilocaine cream on the perianal and intrarectal region during prostate biopsy. ⋯ Perianal anesthesia with lidocaine-prilocaine cream may solely be sufficient to decrease the pain during prostate biopsy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyAdjunctive medical therapy with an alpha-1A-specific blocker after shock wave lithotripsy of lower ureteral stones.
We assessed the efficacy of using an alpha-1A-specific blocker for improving the success rate in shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) for lower ureteral stones. ⋯ Administration of an alpha-1A-specific blocker reduced analgesic dosage and colic episodes after SWL of lower ureteral stones. There was no benefit with regard to increasing stone expulsion rate or decreasing expulsion time.
