There is a great difference in the internal fixation of infant and adult fractures. Biological and anatomical pecularities in childhood make it possible for lingitudinal growth to be impaired by the implanted material, its size, its topographic relationship to the growth organ and the duration of implantation. ⋯ Various ASIF techniques, such as Kirschner wiring, screwing, and fixation with plates, are suitable. Medullary nailing (Küntscher) should not be used in children.

[Oerations on peripheral nerves, plexus and nerve roots, including subarachnoid block with phenol in chronic pain (author's transl)].
Peripheral surgery was performed in 112 patients. Neurolysis or resection of neurons gave rather poor results in pain after nerve injury and stump pain. ⋯ Subarachnoid blocks with Phenol gave similar promising results. Causalgia responds well in a high percentage of cases to sympathectomy; cases of postherpetic neuralgia phantom pain and tabetic crises generally do not respond to peripheral surgery.

[Hospital infection during postoperative intensive care (author's transl)].
Since 1970 all postoperative bacteriological findings recorded in surgical patients have been analyzed and compared with the postoperative course. There are also regular checks of bacterial invasion in the operating suites and in the intensive care units. By such means as systems of double lock for personnel and equipment, regular surface disinfection, frequent hand disinfection, cleaning of the respirators with antiseptics, etc., the authors have been able to reduce the incidence of hospital infection very drastically. These measures also almost eliminated cross-infections in patients on long-term ventilation and complications with long-term indwelling catheters.
