Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
[Comparison of the analgesic effect of interferential current (IFC) and TENS in patients with low back pain].
Electrotherapy, including theTENS and interferential current (IFC) is one of the most frequently used treatments in physical therapy in patients with low back pain. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of TENS and IFC on pain relief and to compare the analgesic efficacy of the two currents. ⋯ Interferential current and TENS therapy are effective for pain relief in patients with low back pain. The study showed equal analgesic efficacy of both treatments.

Ports are more and more often applied with patients requiring the permanent intravenous access, not only in the cancer treatment. Very devices, as well as procedures associated with applying them are determined in the heterogeneous way. Despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation guidelines and their regular updates, the results of cardiac arrest victims treatment are still disappointingly poor. Complex treatment including providing artificial ventilation, circulatory support and prevention of secondary damage from ischemia and hypoxia is a complicated process and its result is unpredictable. The aim of the paper is to present the main steps in post-resuscitation syndrome treatment including ventilatory and circulatory stabilization, central nervous system protection and prognostic value of biochemical and neurophysiological tests.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy, a type of dilated cardiomyopathy of unknown origin, occurs in previously healthy women in the final month of pregnancy and up to 5 months after delivery. Although the incidence is low--less than 0.1% of pregnancies--morbidity and mortality rates are high at 5% to 32%. The etiology of left ventricular dysfunction is unknown. ⋯ The prognosis is best when peripartum cardiomyopathy is diagnosed and treated early. Fortunately, despite a high risk of recurrence in subsequent pregnancies, many patients with peripartum cardiomyopathy recover within 3 to 6 months of disease onset. Future pregnancy is not recommended especially in patients with persistent left ventricular dysfunction because of the risk of dangerous complications.
