Randomized Controlled Trial
The analgesic requirement after thyroid surgery under general anaesthesia with bilateral superficial cervical plexus block.
In this study we evaluated the analgesic efficacy of bilateral superficial cervical plexus block after thyroid surgery. Sixty patients were assigned to two groups. General anesthesia was induced with 2mg/kg propofol, 0.1mg/kg vecuronium and 1.5μg fentanyl IV for both group. ⋯ The first analgesic requirement time in Group I was significantly longer than for the control group. The incidence of nausea and vomiting was significantly lower in Group I than Group II. We concluded that bilateral superficial cervical plexus block with 0.25% bupivacaine did not decrease analgesic requirement after thyroid surgery.

Combination of low-dose isotretinoin and pulsed oral azithromycin for maximizing efficacy of acne treatment.
Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disorders. It mainly affects adolescent, though may present at any age. The conventionally used dose of isotretinoin in acne causes significant dose-related adverse effects. ⋯ Four (4.87%) patients were observed with adverse effects. Three (3.65%) patients had initial aggravation of disease that was managed with oral betamethasone and this disappeared with continuation of treatment. A combination of low-dose isotretinoin and oral azithromycin pulse is effective in moderate to severe acne.

Once Umbilical Cord with Placenta considered a biological waste product and generally discarded after delivery but now cord blood has emerged as a viable source of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. High-risk premature infants require red cell transfusions for anemia. A unique property of cord blood (CB) for its high content of immature hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs). ⋯ A preclinical study showed that donation and transfusion of UCB would be acceptable to women living in Mombasa, Kenya. In view of the small volumes RBC per unit that can be collected, it is most likely that anaemic children need of a small volume of transfusions. In resource-restricted countries would benefit most from this easily available transfusion product.

Efficacy of amitriptyline, pizotifen and propranolol in the prevention of migraine.
This intervention study conducted in the Neurology outpatient Department of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) from January 2006 to December 2007 to compare efficacy of amitriptyline, pizotifen and propranolol in the prophylaxis of migraine. Ninety cases were selected following certain inclusion and exclusion criteria. ⋯ However, compared with amitriptyline and pizotifen, the propranolol group needed tablet paracetamol as abortive therapy less frequently which was statistically significant (p<0.05). All the drugs were well tolerated with minimum adverse effects.

Pulmonary function test of various types are utilized clinically and epidemiologically to measures the functional status of the lung and to asses the diseases. Spirometric standard for healthy Bangladeshi adults aged 18-40 years is conducted in National Institute of Diseases of Chest and Hospital (NIDCH). This is cross sectional study is establish normal value of lung functions for Bangladeshi adult. ⋯ The regression equation for lung function variables was determined for males and females considering height as independent variable. Lung function values of Bangladeshi adult were significantly lower than Nigerian, British and American result but nearly similar to Indian result. Nomogram was constructed in relation to height for males and females.
