Case Reports[Prolonged respiratory support with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in lung transplantation].
A 42 year-old woman with terminal chronic lung disease underwent to left lung transplantation. Extracorporeal membrane oxigenation (ECMO) was required because dysfunction of transplanted organ occurred and was non-responsive to conventional therapy. ⋯ During hospital stay, she developed sepsis and died. In conclusion, ECMO was decisive to the treatment of pulmonary dysfunction, allowing time to the resolution of lung lesion.
