Non invasive assessment of left ventricular filling pressure and remodeling after acute myocardial infarction.
Left ventricular (LV) dilation after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is an important determinant of prognosis. The ratio of early mitral inflow velocity (E) and peak early diastolic annular velocity (e') provides the best single index for noninvasive detection of acute elevation of LV filling pressure. ⋯ The E/e' ratio is a useful predictor of LV remodeling after AMI, indicating patients with increased cardiovascular risk.

Few data are available on diastolic function in patients with aortic stenosis (AOS) with indication of surgical treatment. A potential correlation between biomarkers and diastolic function has not been established. ⋯ AOS patients' ventricular diastolic function improved after AVR. The biomarker NT-proBNP might be a useful biomarker of diastolic function in these patients, before and after AVR. NT-proBNP values show a positive correlation with echocardiographic variables that determine diastolic dysfunction, and is a good marker for the characterization of this dysfunction in AOS patients.

Observational StudyImplementation of the myocardial infarction system of care in city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The creation of an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) system of care aims to optimize the management of patients from early diagnosis to proper and timely treatment. ⋯ The establishment of the AMI system of care improved the access of the population to proper treatment, thus reducing AMI in-hospital mortality. [corrected].

Detection of early sub-clinical trastuzumab-induced cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients.
Trastuzumab (TZB) is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody, used for the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer, with recognized associated-cardiotoxicity. The methods for its early sub-clinical detection are not well defined. ⋯ During the first 3 months of TZB treatment none of the pts presented overt heart failure or significant LVEF deterioration. A significant reduction in the E/e' ratio was detected, but neither the loading parameters nor LVEF changed significantly .

Randomized Controlled TrialDigital stethoscope as an innovative tool on the teaching of auscultatory skills.
Physical cardiovascular examination, particularly cardiac auscultation, is one of the most difficult clinical skills for students during their medical training. Studies suggest that the use of technologies such as digital stethoscope increase the accuracy of clinical examination, however, its impact on the teaching of cardiac auscultation for undergraduate students of medicine is not known. The objective is to demonstrate the usefulness of the digital stethoscope compared to traditional methods as a tool in the teaching of auscultatory skills. nterventional, longitudinal, controlled, unicenter and randomized study. ⋯ It is observed that, at the end of the course, there was a significantly greater improvement in the group that used the digital stethoscope (51.9%) compared to the group using the conventional stethoscope (29.5%). Short-term interventions for cardiac semiology teaching are able to contribute significantly to improving proficiency in the identification of heart sounds. The use of digital stethoscope proved to be a positive factor in teaching these skills.
