A novel approach to medical school examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Online teaching for medical students is not an unusual tool used in medical education. Alongside clinical placements, medical students are familiar with online teaching platforms from various members of the faculty. However, the new and necessary method of examining medical students from their own home during the Covid-19 Pandemic is a novel approach. It is vital that medical students continue to be examined, as this establishes the attainment of the curriculum learning outcomes.

Non-technical skills progression during anesthesiology residency in Portugal: the impact of a National Pedagogical Plan.
Background Simulation is known as an important tool for the learning of technical and non-technical skills without endangering patient safety. In Portugal, a National Pedagogical Plan for Anesthesiology Residents was created based on simulation training. This plan was designed according to the objectives set forth by the Portuguese Board of Anesthesiology. ⋯ Conclusions The impact of simulation on anesthesiology non-technical skills during residency is positive and recognized by the students. Moreover, simulation also helps in the recognition of error, enriching the value of self-confidence and the crucial role of behavioral skills. The mediating role of psychological capital on the relation between distress and empathy of medical residents: a cross-sectional survey.
Background: Medical residents usually suffer from work overload and experience both personal and professional distress, which affects their level of the empathy to patients. Psychological capital (PsyCap) is a psychological resource that is negatively associated with indicators of distress. Objective: This study explored the potential mediating effect of PsyCap on the relationship between distress and empathy, which may help healthcare professionals in their defense of empathy erosion due to distress. ⋯ Conclusions: PsyCap may serve a significant protective role against the impact of distress on the level of empathy of medical residents. In addition to reducing distress, PsyCap development could be considered in empathy decline prevention and empathy cultivating strategies. The global spread of COVID-19 has put increased pressure on the NHS. The Government has put in a number of strategies to cope with this pandemic, which includes increasing funding for the NHS. ⋯ These are unprecedented times and are placing strains on our health service. Nonetheless, we as healthcare professionals have taken oaths that we are honouring and will continue to do so, till this virus is put to rest.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is causing wide-spread interruptions in medical education. With little warning, clinical rotations were cancelled and medical students were sent home. ⋯ Simultaneously, medical doctors were scrambling to maintain competence in the face of rapidly evolving COVID-19 information. Here, we describe an education program that integrates medical students into interdisciplinary teams to review emerging COVID-19 research that directly answers questions sent in by medical doctors.
