Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialApplication of freeze-dried amniotic membrane: a control trial at the donor site of split-thickness skin grafting.
Sixty five patients (51 males and 14 females) underwent a control trial of freeze-dried amniotic membrane applied in the form of split-thickness skin grafts over an area from which skin had been surgically removed. The average size of the grafts was 15 x 20 cm. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. ⋯ Pain, infection, and the progress of healing were monitored. Covering the wound with the amniotic membrane had good results in terms of pain reduction, but the promotion of healing and the prevention of infection were not demonstrated. Hyperemia and hypertrophic scar responses to the membrane in some cases were considered as disadvantages.

The early recognition and treatment of impending compartmental ischemia in the foot in the context of severe injuries will prevent the late sequelae of myoneural necrosis. When suspected, simple tests will confirm the diagnosis. ⋯ Methods of measuring compartment pressures in the foot are outlined. Prompt decompression of the compartment syndrome with appropriate fasciotomies either by medial or dorsal longitudinal incisions is indicated to preserve function and form of the foot.

Case ReportsThe use of clonidine for the treatment of meperidine withdrawal in a multidisciplinary pain program setting. A case presentation.
The management of iatrogenic drug dependence in individuals with pain can be more difficult than the treatment of the pain itself. In addition to a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of a patient with chronic pain, there is a need for a rapid, safe, and effective method of detoxification from opiate use. Clonidine HCl, a nonopiate, has been found, in this case presentation, to be a valuable option.

Comparative StudyIncidence of physical and psychosocial disabilities in chronic pain patients: initial report.
Chronic pain is a leading health care problem with a wide range of physical and psychosocial outcomes. This report reviews the key intake findings of the first 227 patients admitted to a comprehensive inpatient/outpatient program for the treatment of chronic pain. Key trends in the data which suggest the different presentations of the chronic pain syndrome are highlighted and indications for future research are given.
