Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialProspective and randomized trial of intravenous tenoxicam versus fentanyl and tramadol for analgesia in outpatient extracorporeal lithotripsy.
As extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is frequently carried out on an outpatient basis, it is crucial to choose an adequate analgesic with less adverse effect. This study evaluated the use of three different intravenous agents: fentanyl, tramadol HCl and tenoxicam in ESWL. ⋯ Lithotripsy can be satisfactorily performed by employing fentanyl, tramadol or tenoxicam for analgesia; tenoxicam apparently offers a better analgesic quality with less side effect. Furthermore, the need for stronger analgesia during larger voltage intensity should be tailored to the needs of the individuals.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialHalothane requirement--a comparison between laryngeal mask airway insertion and endotracheal tube intubation in pediatric patients.
The present study was to determine the effective concentration of halothane for insertion of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and for intubation of endotracheal tube (ETT) in pediatric patients. ⋯ The insertion of LMA could be performed at a significantly less halothane concentration in comparison with ETT intubation in children.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of hemodynamics and recovery of sevoflurane and isoflurane anesthesia in Chinese adult patients.
The new inhalational anesthetic sevoflurane would be expected to provide a rapid emergence from anesthesia due to its low blood/gas partition coefficient. In this study, we compared the hemodynamic effects, speed and quality of emergence, in ASA class I-II Chinese adult surgical patients receiving either sevoflurane or isoflurane anesthesia. ⋯ Compared with isoflurane, sevoflurane anesthesia had the clinical advantages of maintaining stable hemodynamics and rapid recovery in Chinese adult patients.

Case ReportsManipulation of epidural catheter that has migrated restores adequate postoperative analgesia--a case report.
The use of epidural anesthesia and analgesia is ordinary in patients undergoing total knee replacement (TKR). As many as 23% of epidural anesthetics may not provide satisfactory analgesia for women in labor. ⋯ We reported a case in whom the in-place epidural catheter which functioned well for surgical anesthesia previously migrated to an intervertebral foramen postoperatively and led to failure of providing post-operative analgesia. With deliberate manipulation we succeeded in restoring its function and analgesia showed up again.

Case ReportsSuspected malignant hyperthermia during isoflurane anesthesia--a case report.
We present a patient with thyroid cancer, who developed respiratory acidosis, tachycardia and hyperthermia during isoflurane anesthesia. Malignant hyperthermia was suspected on the basis of clinical manifestation and laboratory finding. With early diagnosis and treatment the patient survived the episode.
