Effects of low-dose rhBMP-2 on peri-implant ridge augmentation in a canine model.
The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of low-dose rhBMP-2 combined with Hydroxyapatite (HAp)/β-tricalcium phosphate (TCP)/ Collagen (Col) composite in repairing the peri-implant critical size defect and to determine the optimal rhBMP-2 concentration. ⋯ Our results highlight the constructs of HAp/TCP/Col +0.2 mg/ml rhBMP-2 without barrier membranes as a promising tool for peri-implant ridge augmentation.

The online attention to research in periodontology: An Altmetric study on the most discussed articles on the web.
To assess the online attention to research in the field of Periodontology. To assess the correlation between the Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) and the citations count in Web of Science (WOS), Scopus and Dimensions. ⋯ Online attention to periodontal research is high. Systemic interaction studies had a significantly higher visibility. The classic citations count in combination with the AAS can offer a more comprehensive insight into research by highlighting what is valuable for the researcher and for the lay persons. The online profile of journals should be edited to facilitate spread of research information in non-scholar audiences.

The impact of motivational interviewing on communication of patients undergoing periodontal therapy.
There has been growing interest in motivational interviewing (MI) as a structured method for supporting health behaviour change in periodontal therapy. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of communication techniques used in MI on statements of patients undergoing periodontal therapy. ⋯ Specific verbal expressions described in the theory of MI significantly influence the subsequent statements of the patient in periodontal therapy. Accordingly, the periodontist can guide patient communication in a desired direction, evoke motivational statements and reduce expressions of resistance.

This study aimed to assess the quality of the information available on the Web on gum disease. ⋯ Currently, there are concerns regarding patients' use of the Internet for accessing health information. However, the conclusion we can make is that Google seems to favour websites with high quality information, at least in terms of JAMA score or HONCode accreditation. The JAMA score of dental practices' websites could be improved by providing basic information such as authorship and date.

Randomized Controlled TrialNon-surgical periodontal treatment in conjunction with 3 or 7 days systemic administration of amoxicillin and metronidazole in severe chronic periodontitis patients. A placebo-controlled randomized clinical study.
To evaluate the effect of 3 or 7 days systemic administration of amoxicillin (AMX) and metronidazole (MET) or placebo as adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment in severe chronic periodontitis patients. ⋯ The present findings indicate that in patients with severe chronic periodontitis, non-surgical periodontal therapy in conjunction with a 3 or 7 days systemic administration of AMX + MET may lead to significantly greater clinical improvements compared to non-surgical therapy alone.
