Multicenter Study Observational StudyImpact of COVID-19 on ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction care. The Spanish experience.
The COVID-19 outbreak has had an unclear impact on the treatment and outcomes of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The aim of this study was to assess changes in STEMI management during the COVID-19 outbreak. ⋯ The number of STEMI patients treated during the current COVID-19 outbreak fell vs the previous year and there was an increase in the median time from symptom onset to reperfusion and a significant 2-fold increase in the rate of in-hospital mortality. No changes in reperfusion strategy were detected, with primary percutaneous coronary intervention performed for the vast majority of patients. The co-existence of STEMI and SARS-CoV-2 infection was relatively infrequent.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyPrevalence of colorectal disease in Enterococcus faecalis infective endocarditis: results of an observational multicenter study.
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of colorectal disease in Enterococcus faecalis infective endocarditis (EFIE) patients. ⋯ Performing a colonoscopy in all EFIE patients, irrespective of the presumed source of infection, could be helpful to diagnose colorectal disease in these patients and to avoid a new bacteremia episode (and eventually infective endocarditis) by the same or a different microorganism.

Multicenter StudyHeat waves, ambient temperature, and risk of myocardial infarction: an ecological study in the Community of Madrid.
Episodes of extreme heat are associated with increased morbidity and mortality in chronically-ill patients but there is a need to clearly establish the relationship between extreme heat and myocardial infarction. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the incidence of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and maximum temperature, in particular during heat wave alert periods (HWAP). ⋯ We did not find an increased risk of STEMI during the 66 days of HWAP in the Community of Madrid between June 2013 and June 2017. However, an increased risk was found during colder temperatures. No extra health resources for STEMI management are required during periods of extreme heat, but should be considered during periods of cold weather.

Multicenter StudyChange in neuron specific enolase levels in out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest survivors as a simple and useful tool to predict neurological prognosis.
Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is a prognostic marker in out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest (OHCA) survivors treated with mild therapeutic hypothermia (MTH). The objectives were to analyze the correlation between dynamic changes in NSE and outcomes and to determine the measurement timing that best predicts neurological status. ⋯ Dynamic changes in NSE serum levels are good markers of hard clinical outcomes after an OHCA due to shockable rhythm in an MTH-treated cohort. NSE measurements at specific intervals after OHCA may predict events even more precisely.

Multicenter StudyPrognostic Value of Serum Lactate Levels in Patients Undergoing Urgent Heart Transplant: A Subanalysis of the ASIS-TC Spanish Multicenter Study.
To study the prognostic value of serum lactate in patients under temporary preoperative mechanical circulatory support who underwent urgent heart transplant. ⋯ Preoperative serum lactate is a strong independent predictor of worse outcomes in patients undergoing urgent heart transplant on short-term mechanical circulatory support.
