[Dynamics of hantavirus detection in the excretory organs of Apodemus mice and its relation to epidemic manifestations of hantavirus infection].
This paper presents data on the detection of hantavirus in the excretory organs of Apodemus mice which are natural carriers of pathogenic hantaviral serotypes in the Primorye Region. Acute infection periods were detected in naturally infected rodents with the highest hantavirus dissemination to the environment in different phases of rodent population cycles. There was a relationship between the rise of morbidity and the seasonal manifestation of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome morbidity and activity of hantavirus reproduction in the murine excretory organs.

Review[Human metapneumovirus as a common cause of respiratory tract disease].
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV), the newly identified paramyxovirus, causes respiratory infections in children, immunosuppressed patients, and the elderly in different countries of the world. The epidemiology and clinical manifestations of HMPV infection are similar to those in human respiratory syncytial virus infection. ⋯ There are at least two genotypes and several subtypes of HMPV in the human population. The use of cell cultures and laboratory animals have provided new evidence for the pathogenesis of HMPV infection, the specific features of antiviral immunity and enabled recombinant HMPV vaccine candidates to be designed.

Comparative Study[Influenza viruses which preconditioned the epidemic rise in Russia in 2002-2003. A resumed circulation of influenza viruses similar to V/Victoria/2/87].
According to research, the epidemic rise of influenza was preconditioned, during 2002-2003, in Russia by the circulation of influenza A(H1N1), A(H3N2) and B viruses. The Center of Influenza Ecology and Epidemiology undertook a study of 178 epidemic strains: 41 strains A(H1N1), 116 strains A(H3N2) and 21 strains of influenza B were among them. All strains were isolated in the MDCK cell culture. ⋯ An analysis of antigenic properties of neuraminidases (NA) of the mentioned epidemic strains showed their different degrees of relationship with the NA etalons of both evolutionary groups, i.e. B/Victoria/2/87 and B/Yamagata/16/88-like. A study of paired sera obtained from patients showed a growth of antibodies to the etalons of influenza A(H1N1), A(H3N2) and B viruses of the season in question, which confirmed the virology data.

Comparative Study[Antigenic and genetic properties of Seoul virus strains--a causative agent of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome].
Data on the circulation of a new genetic variant of Seol virus, which was designated as "Vladivostok" (the name of the place where it was isolated)--VDV, were obtained, by using the antigenic and genetic analysis of hantavirus strains isolated from patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and from brown rats, and described in the present paper. A complete identity of nucleotide sequences of the M-segment fragment of isolates obtained from HFRS patients and of those obtained from rats was demonstrated, which confirms the key role of brown rat as a source of infection.

Review[Intranasal vaccination with live measles vaccines within the framework of measles eradication strategy].
The authors discuss the possibility of intranasal revaccination with live measles vaccine. Intranasal vaccination is no less effective than subcutaneous. ⋯ The intranasal method of vaccination is safer than the inhalation method, which involves exposure of the bronchial mucosa to the live measles virus. The efficiency of mucosal measles vaccine can be increased by adding this or that adjuvant to the vaccine.
