[Role of single-breath carbon monoxide-diffusing capacity in monitoring the bleomycin-induced lung toxicity in human].
To investigate if the carbon monoxide-diffusing capacity (D(LCO)) could be the early indictor monitoring the bleomycin-induced lung toxicity (BILT) with retrospection of the influence of bleomycin cumulative dose on the pulmonary functions. ⋯ The D(LCO) might be the most sensitive indicator of subclinical BILT. However, the cumulative dose of bleomycin did not show significant influence on the FEV(1), FVC and TLC.

To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux induced cough (GERC). ⋯ The gastroesophageal reflux may be an independent factor which could induce chronic cough. Not only the frequency and severity of gastroesophageal reflux but also the SAP were helpful in making the diagnosis of GERC. Satisfied effect was achieved after sufficient anti-reflux treatment in patients with GERC.

[Relation of resting energy expenditure to respiratory mechanics and arterial blood gases in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients].
To investigate the relationships of the rest energy expenditure to the respiratory mechanics and arterial blood gases in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. ⋯ The rest energy expenditure of COPD patients was significantly higher than that of healthy subjects. This increase in REE was not only attributed to the airway obstruction and the damaged gas exchange, but may be related to the elevated respiratory drive and dysfunction of respiratory muscles as well.

[Risk factors for stroke in Chinese with non valvular atrial fibrillation: a case-control study].
The aim of this study is to identify the risk factors in Chinese with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and stroke, using case-control methodology. ⋯ Our analysis suggests that old age, hypertension, diabetes, high systolic blood pressure and LA thrombi detected with echocardiography are independent risk factors, which should be considered when decision of long-term anticoagulation therapy to prevent stroke with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation is to be made.
