[Risk factors for stroke in Chinese with non valvular atrial fibrillation: a case-control study].
The aim of this study is to identify the risk factors in Chinese with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and stroke, using case-control methodology. ⋯ Our analysis suggests that old age, hypertension, diabetes, high systolic blood pressure and LA thrombi detected with echocardiography are independent risk factors, which should be considered when decision of long-term anticoagulation therapy to prevent stroke with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation is to be made.

[Effects of glucose-insulin-potassium cocktail on cardiac myocyte death and post-ischemic recovery cardiac functional recovery: the critical role of insulin].
To study the effect of glucose-insulin-potassium (GIK) cocktail on cardiac myocyte death (i.e., necrosis and apoptosis) and cardiac functional recovery following myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R), and to further investigate the role of insulin in the GIK-induced cardioprotective effect. ⋯ GIK exerts cardioprotective effect against postischemic myocardial injury. Insulin, mainly through its anti-apoptotic effect, plays a critical role in the GIK-elicited myocardial protection in MI/R.

Comparative Study[Comparison of two score models in predicting prognosis and renal outcome in acute renal failure].
To compare the value of ATN-ISI (acute tubular necrosis-individual severity index) and APACHE II (acute physiology and chronic health evaluation) score models in predicting mortality and renal outcome in patients with acute renal failure (ARF). ⋯ Both the score models are of value in predicting mortality and renal outcome in patients with ARF. ATN-ISI score model was better than APACHE II.

[Evaluation of the factors leading to delay from stroke onset to arrival at hospital].
To investigate the delay in time from stroke onset to arrival at the emergency department (ED) and to evaluate the factors associated with the delay. ⋯ There is significant time delay from stroke onset to patients arrival at the ED. Further health education is necessary to increase the public awareness of seeking medical help after stroke onset and having ambulance transportation to an acute-care hospital.

[Relative risk of death and life expectancy in low cardiovascular risk population].
To assess the relationship between low cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and the mortalities of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, cancer and all causes as well as life expectancy in Chinese population. ⋯ The mortality rates of CVD and all causes were lower and life expectancy was longer in the participants with low CVD risk. Keeping low risk profile may not only prevent from having CVD but also extend life expectancy.
