Case Reports
Treatment of chronic tibial osteomyelitis, segmental bone loss, and soft tissue defect by bone transplant.
New methods of treatment have greatly improved the success of limb salvage in severe lower extremity trauma. We report the use of a microvascular free tissue transfer and distraction osteogenesis in the reconstruction of soft tissue and bone defects complicated by infection. ⋯ Bone transportation can be accomplished in a distal to proximal direction if the situation necessitates it. These techniques are extremely versatile and useful in the treatment of bone and soft tissue defect.
