The effects of transcranial direct current stimulation in patients with neuropathic pain from spinal cord injury.
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has demonstrated efficacy for reducing neuropathic pain, but the respective mechanisms remain largely unknown. The current study tested the hypothesis that pain reduction with tDCS is associated with an increase in the peak frequency spectrum density in the theta-alpha range. ⋯ The results provide new findings regarding the effects of tDCS on neuropathic pain and brain oscillation changes.

Coupling in multiple electroencephalogram (EEG) signals provides a perspective tool to understand the mechanism of brain communication. In this study, we propose a method based on permutation cross-mutual information (PCMI) to investigate whether or not the coupling between EEG series can be used to quantify the effect of specific anesthetic drugs (isoflurane and remifentanil) on brain activities. ⋯ The PCMI is a promising new coupling measure for estimating the effect of isoflurane and remifentanil anesthetic drugs on the brain activity.

The Poincaré plot is a two-dimensional state-space approach, where a timed signal is plotted against itself after a time delay, enabling determination of the dynamic nature of signals. Quantification of the Poincaré plot is a candidate for estimating anesthesia-dependent changes in the electroencephalogram (EEG). ⋯ The Poincaré plot is a useful technique for detecting the EEG changes induced by anesthesia.

There is little information about processing of nonspeech and speech stimuli at the subcortical level in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The auditory brainstem response (ABR) provides information about the function of the auditory brainstem pathways. We aim to investigate the subcortical function in neural encoding of click and speech stimuli in children with ADHD. ⋯ There is a common dysfunction in the processing of click and speech stimuli at the brainstem level in children with suspected ADHD.
