Triage effect on wait time of receiving treatment services and patients satisfaction in the emergency department: Example from Iran.
Long wait time interval in emergency department (ED) of hospitals, from the patients' point of view in ED is a major problem causing patients' dissatisfaction and may result increasing in patient morbidity and indirectly nurses dissatisfaction. Evaluation of wait time intervals in ED and giving nursing feedback may improve the quality of services, as well as patient satisfaction. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of nursing triage on receiving treatment of wait time interval and satisfaction of the patients referring to ED in Shahid Rajaee hospital. ⋯ Triage could significantly reduce the wait time interval between patients' entrance to ED to receive treatment services and enhance patients' satisfaction. It may help nursing in emergency ward to have better performance and indirectly their satisfaction.

A comparison between the effects of simple and traction splints on pain intensity in patients with femur fractures.
Fractures of femur are among the most important causes of mortality in musculoskeletal injuries. Owning to lack of adequate research to compare various techniques of fracture stabilization, there has not yet been an agreement over a protocol to utilize a specific type of splint for femoral fracture immobilization. This study was thus conducted to compare the effects of simple and traction splints on pain intensityimmediately after and at the 1(st), 6(th), and 12(th)h after splinting among patients with femur fracture in the centers affiliated to Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (Isfahan, Iran). ⋯ The significant difference in pain reduction between the simple and traction splint groups at the 1(st), 6(th), and 12(th)h after splinting emphasizes the superiority of traction splints.

The effect of a care program on pain intensity of cancer patients who underwent surgery and hospitalized in Sayyed-Al-Shohada Hospital of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2011.
One of the most frequent issues nurses encounter with after or during cancer-related surgeries is pain. For postoperative pain relief, different nonpharmacologic interventions, such as nurse-patient communication, mental support, preoperative education, and consultation can be used. Doing such interventions may decrease postoperative pain. However, the research results regarding the effect of such measurements on pain intensity is contradictory. So in this research study the effect of a pain management plan on pain intensity after cancer surgery was assessed. ⋯ Results of the present research study suggested that a nursing pain management program consisting consultation, education, and pain assessment may have a clinical effect on cancer patient pain intensity following surgery. However, these results were not statistically significant. This might be due to the limited sample size as well as conducting the program in a short period of time. It is recommended that effects of such a program on the pain intensity will be examined further with a larger sample and in a longer period of time.

Effectiveness of nursing interventions based on family needs on family satisfaction in the neurosurgery intensive care unit.
Since the family is a social system, the impairment in each of its component members may disrupt the entire family system. One of the stress sources for families is accidents leading to hospitalization particularly in the intensive care unit (ICU). In many cases, the families' needs in patient care are not met that cause dissatisfaction. Since the nurses spend a lot of time with patients and their families, they are in a good position to assess their needs and perform appropriate interventions. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of nursing interventions based on family needs on family satisfaction level of hospitalized patients in the neurosurgery ICU. ⋯ Nursing interventions based on family needs of hospitalized patients in the ICU increase their satisfaction. Attention to family nursing should be planned especially in the ICUs.

The effects of an oral care practice on incidence of pneumonia among ventilator patients in ICUs of selected hospitals in Isfahan, 2010.
Oral care plays an inevitable role in health and well-being of patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Poor oral care causes colonization of respiratory pathogens and secondary respiratory infections. Ventilator-associated pneumonia occurs in patients on mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours. It results in prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation, mortality and health expenses. The present study aimed to review the effects of an oral care practice on the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia in patients on mechanical ventilation admitted in ICUs. ⋯ The results of the present study showed that brushing and standard oral care practice had no effects on ventilator-associated pneumonia. Therefore, the incidence of such complication might be affected by many different factors.
