Outcome of different oncoplastic surgical (OPs) techniques for centrally located breast cancer (CLBC).
Oncoplastic breast surgery is a standard treatment of early breast cancer, offering a balance between good cosmetic outcome and limited risk of locoregional recurrence, by enabling proper resection margins. ⋯ Multiple oncoplastic breast surgery techniques can be used for the resection of CLBC with satisfying cosmetic outcomes.

Pelvic exenteration and composite sacral resection in the surgical treatment of locally recurrent rectal cancer.
The incidence of rectal cancer recurrence after surgery is 5-45%. Extended pelvic resection which entails En-bloc resection of the tumor and adjacent involved organs provides the only true possible curative option for patients with locally recurrent rectal cancer. ⋯ Extended pelvic resection as pelvic exenteration and sacral resection for locally recurrent rectal cancer are effective procedures with tolerable mortality rate and acceptable outcome. The associated morbidity remains high and deserves vigilant follow up.

Comparative StudyDosimetric analytic comparison of inverse and forward planned IMRT techniques in the treatment of head and neck cancer.
Our aim was to investigate if, and to what degree, improvements of IMRT treatment plans generated by forward planning can be achieved with an inverse planning strategy for treatments of head and neck cancer. ⋯ IP-IMRT selectively spared critical organs to greater degree with better target coverage and should be considered the standard of treatment in head and neck tumors.

Prognostic value of IDH1 mutations identified with PCR-RFLP assay in acute myeloid leukemia patients.
Somatic mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) gene occur frequently in primary brain tumors. Recently theses mutations were demonstrated in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). So far, assessment of these mutations relied on the DNA sequencing technique. ⋯ IDH1 mutations are recurring genetic alterations in AML and they may have unfavorable impact on clinical outcome in adult AML. The PCR-RFLP method allows for a fast, inexpensive, and sensitive method for the detection of IDH1 mutations in AML.

Comparative StudyComparison of abdominoperineal resection and low anterior resection in lower and middle rectal cancer.
This study aimed to investigate local control and survival rates following abdominoperineal resection (APR) compared with low anterior resection (LAR) in lower and middle rectal cancer. ⋯ LAR can provide comparable local control, disease free and overall survival rates compared with APR in eligible patients with lower and middle rectal cancer.
