Comparative Study Observational StudyA propensity score matched comparative study between paclitaxel-coated balloon and everolimus-eluting stents for the treatment of small coronary vessels.
To compare the long-term clinical outcomes of paclitaxel drug-coated-balloons (DCB) and everolimus-eluting-stents (EES) following the treatment of de novo small vessel coronary artery disease. ⋯ The use of paclitaxel-DCB appears to be associated with similar clinical outcomes when compared to second-generation-EES in small coronary artery disease. The findings of this study should be confirmed with larger prospective randomized studies with longer follow-up. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Case ReportsThe use of hemodynamic support in massive pulmonary embolism.
Massive pulmonary embolism is life threatening and can present as cardiogenic shock and cardiac arrest. We report a case of a 47-year-old male who arrested during his postoperative hospitalization and was found to have a massive pulmonary embolism with bilateral involvement of the pulmonary arteries. Given his profound shock and right ventricular failure, an Impella RP was used to stabilize his acute right ventricular failure while percutaneous embolectomy and thrombolysis was used to treat the pulmonary embolism. The patient underwent the procedure successfully with reduction in vasopressors and thrombus burden and recovery of right ventricular function. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Case ReportsIntracranial hemorrhage in a patient with sub-massive pulmonary embolism treated with EkoSonic endovascular system directed thrombolysis.
Ultrasound-assisted catheter-directed thrombolysis therapy has emerged more recently as a management strategy for patients with intermediate risk pulmonary embolism and has shown promising results in clinical trials by early reversal of right ventricle dilation, reduced pulmonary hypertension, and decreased anatomic thrombus burden. This therapeutic strategy requires a small fraction of the systemic fibrinolytic dose and is therefore associated with a reduced bleeding risk. Although intracranial hemorrhage has not been reported in clinical trials, it is a possible complication. Here we report the first case of intracranial hemorrhage related to the use of EkoSonic™ Endovascular System directed thrombolysis in a patient with large bilateral pulmonary embolism without any identifiable bleeding risks. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Multicenter StudyRadiation dose benchmarks in pediatric cardiac catheterization: A prospective multi-center C3PO-QI study.
This study sought to update benchmark values to use a quality measure prospectively. ⋯ This study updates previously established benchmarks to reflect QI efforts over time. These thresholds can be applied for quality measurement and comparison. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Predictors of long-term outcomes after bypass grafting versus drug-eluting stent implantation for left main or multivessel coronary artery disease.
We assessed predictors of long-term outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) versus those after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES) in 3,230 patients with left main or multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD). ⋯ Simple clinical variables and SYNTAX score differentially predict long-term outcomes after CABG versus those after PCI with DES for left main or multivessel CAD. Those predictors might help to guide the choice of revascularization strategy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
