A novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and spread rapidly around the world, causing high rates of mortality and morbidity. This disease is known for its respiratory manifestations. Also, there have been several reports of neurological involvement in patients with COVID-19. ⋯ Upon admission, only respiratory signs of COVID-19 were observed, but later, some neurological manifestations were also observed, such as an alteration in mental status, disorientation, stupor, and finally coma. In radiological studies, a hemorrhagic encephalopathy pattern was detected. Despite improved oxygenation and alleviation of respiratory symptoms with antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapies, cerebral injuries progressed, and the patient died due to severe brain damage.

Intensive care unit acquired weakness (ICUAW) is a known complication in ICU patients, especially in those with severe underlying diseases. The cause and pathogenesis of ICUAW are still unknown. This study examined the incidence rate of ICUAW in intensive care units (ICUs) of the Masih-Daneshvari Hospital. ⋯ It is concluded that nearly half of ICU-admitted patients develop ICUAW that causes a higher mortality rate. Therefore, new plans should be developed to reduce the rate of ICUAW and subsequent death, as well as other possible morbidities.

One of the most worrying aspects of medical area in developing countries is the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This study aimed to evaluate the acceptability of the clinical dashboard by the users, prior to final use and their attitude towards this technology, as well as to examine the specific needs that Tele-ICU technology can cover in the form of a clinical dashboard. ⋯ This study showed that the level of knowledge and awareness of care providers, especially nurses and respiratory therapists in the ICU in terms of telemedicine and Tele-ICU is low and care providers are in doubt that telemedicine technology could have a positive or negative impact on human resource shortages, yet agreed that it would have a negative effect on the privacy of the patients and care providers. In addition, the ICU care providers agree that Tele-ICU can positively affect the quality of patient care, staff satisfaction, reduce the cost of care, and ease and reduce the time for patient counseling. This suggests the need for further research and education of system impact beyond patient outcomes related to this new technology.

Despite various applications of tele-ICU, there are still many questions about its costs and advantages in ICU. Some of its advantages are accelerating consultations and bringing physicians' satisfaction from tele-consultation outcomes. The aim of this study is to discuss these advantages. ⋯ Since the length of hospitalization in ICU is crucial due to heavy costs of treatment, high risk of contamination and limited beds, performing timely consultation is a key factor in reducing hospitalization period. Tele-consultation in thoracic surgery ICU not only accelerates patient care, but also results in higher physician satisfaction.

The present study was performed with the aim of comparing the peak inspiratory pressure and lung dynamic compliance between a classic laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and an endotracheal tube in children under mechanical ventilation. ⋯ A laryngeal mask airway due to its low airway resistance and high dynamic compliance is an acceptable alternative to a tracheal tube during mechanical ventilation and it can be a good alternative to the endotracheal tube, especially during mechanical ventilation of children, in whom avoidance of barotrauma is desirable.
