[Thoracocentesis in patients with pleural effusion and chronic alcoholic liver disease].
chronic alcoholic liver disease (EHAC) associates to recurrent pleural effusion. Generally thoracocentesis is not performed for considering this fluid a trasudate. Our objective was to determine the usefulness of thoracocentesis and causes of recurrent pleural effusion. ⋯ we found that more than half of patients with chronic alcoholic liver disease and recurrent pleural effusion was an exudate, thus thoracocentesis should be frequently performed in these patients.

Comparative Study[Influence of the academic degree and experience in learning performance on basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation guide].
to determine if the different academic degrees or years of working experience in the emergency room (ER) modify the ability to learn the Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Guide of the American Heart Association. ⋯ the study found that experience has the highest weight in determining learning performance. The combination of both experience and educational attainment have a synergic effect in mastering the competencies.

[Detection of delirium in hospitalized elderly patients using the confusion assessment method].
To determine the prevalence and incidence of delirium using the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) in hospitalized elderly patients in the geriatric department of IMSS General Hospital No. 89, at Guadalajara, Jalisco. ⋯ The CAM and MMSE seems to be an acceptable screening instrument for delirium and cognitive impairment; using theses tests routinely could contribute to improve quality of care for these patients.

[Knowledge of phytopharmaceuticals among physicians from Morelos, Mexico].
To analyze the proportion of primary care physicians from the Health System in the State of Morelos with knowledge about phytopharmaceuticals, and to explore some factors related to this knowledge. ⋯ As the results demonstrate, knowledge about phytopharmaceuticals among primary care physicians is deficient, regardless of the institution where they work.

[Usefulness of Ottawa rules for acute injuries of ankle and foot].
To analyze the usefulness of the rules of Ottawa in the diagnosis of foot and ankle injuries. ⋯ In the injuries of ankle, when the Ottawa rules are negative, the X-rays series are not indicated, since the probability of not having a fracture can be of 100%. When it has one or more criteria, if we asked for the X-rays, a third part of the patients can have fracture with a rate of false positives of 40%. Apparently, in ankle and foot injuries, certain studies are not essential without having any deterioration of the quality medical care.
