Historical Article[The first clinical description of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (known before as Wegener's granulomatosis)].
Before 1950, cases of necrotizing vasculitis were commonly published in journals of pathology. Most of these cases were designated as polyarteritis nodosa. In 1952, the pathologist Pearl Zeek critically reviewed and summarized the literature dealing with polyarteritis nodosa and first grouped the different types of necrotizing vasculitis. But she omitted some types of not well-characterized vasculitis, among them granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's granulomatosis).

[Quality dimensions focused on the healthcare protocol Infarction Code (Código Infarto)].
The Código Infarto (Infarction Code) strategy is part of the comprehensive care program "A Todo Corazón" (To All Heart), whose aim is to reinforce the prevention and health care of cardiovascular diseases. Mexico faces a big challenge, since it is the country with greater mortality secondary to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in the first 30 days in patients of 45 years or older (28% compared with 7.9% of the average). ⋯ The quality focus in the Código Infarto strategy has six main dimensions: security, effectiveness, its focus on the patient, opportune, efficient, and [it offers] equitable [treatment]. The implementation of Código Infarto in IMSS is the first institutional strategy to face the leading cause of death in our country and it has produced up until now very encouraging results.

[Relation of red cell distribution width and mean platelet volume with the severity of preeclampsia].
It has been established a strong association between the red cell distribution width (RDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV) with hypertension in non-pregnant patients. However, few studies have been performed in patients with preeclampsia, yielding inconsistent results. Our aim is to evaluate the relationship between RDW and MPV with the severity of preeclampsia. ⋯ We demonstrate that RDW and MPV are accessible and inexpensive measures associated with the severity of preeclampsia.

[Profesionalismo en médicos de un hospital de segundo nivel].
It takes many years to acquire abilities and technical skills necessary to do a good work as a doctor and even more years, for being "good professionals". Much of this training is based on old teaching schemes, but medicine has changed. So far no studies in our medium addressing the problem are known. The aim of this paper was to determine the level of professionalism in physicians that work in a second-level hospital. ⋯ More than a half of physicians surveyed had a competent level of professionalism but only in some dimensions. We observed higher scores with a higher academic grade.
