To investigate early predictors for discharge to a geriatric rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing home in older patients after hospitalization for hip fracture surgery. ⋯ This study showed that age, PFMS, premorbid Katz-ADL, surgical treatment, ASA score, type of anesthesia, history of dementia, and cotreatment by a geriatrician were independent early predictors for discharge to geriatric rehabilitation vs discharge home in older patients after hip fracture surgery. Identical predictors were found as predictors for discharge to a nursing home vs discharge home, except for history of dementia and premorbid Katz-ADL.

To assess whether low systolic blood pressure (SBP) or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) due to antihypertensive medications might be related to mortality among nursing home (NH) residents. ⋯ Systolic hypotension was found in more than one-third of the NH residents receiving antihypertensive treatment. Low SBP and DBP were significant factors associated with mortality. Particular attention should be paid to prevent low SBP and DBP in NH residents on antihypertensive treatment.

Symptom persistence weeks after laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) clearance is a relatively common long-term complication of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Little is known about this phenomenon in older adults. The present study aimed at determining the prevalence of persistent symptoms among older COVID-19 survivors and identifying symptom patterns. ⋯ Persistent symptoms are frequently experienced by older adults who have been hospitalized for COVID-19. Follow-up programs should be implemented to monitor and care for long-term COVID-19-related health issues.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Managing Pain and Psychosis Symptoms in Nursing Home Patients: Results from a Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial (COSMOS).
In nursing homes (NHs), 30% to 60% of patients experience daily pain and >80% have dementia. This can lead to neuropsychiatric symptoms, including psychosis symptoms such as delusion. We investigated if there was a relationship between pain and psychosis symptoms over time. We also aimed to investigate the effect of a multicomponent intervention (COSMOS) on pain, psychosis symptoms, and analgesic prescription. ⋯ Pain is associated with psychosis symptoms, and pain assessment should be done when making treatment decisions on psychosis symptoms in NH patients. The COSMOS intervention improved musculoskeletal pain in people with dementia, but not psychosis symptoms, and there is need for further studies on treatment of psychosis symptoms in NH patients.

The "timed up and go" (TUG) test is a simple and widely used test of overall functional mobility. There is a paucity of TUG normative data among Asian individuals who differ in habitual gait speed and fall risk from Western population. The objectives of this study were to determine TUG reference values and optimum cutoffs predicting prevalent and incident disability for community-dwelling adults. ⋯ TUG reference values and cutoff predicting disability for community-dwelling older adults in Singapore are consistent with Asian data and lower than for Western individuals. TUG could be used to guide development and evaluation of risk screening of adverse health outcomes across the life span in Singapore.
