Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a common cause of admission to the emergency departments (ED). Doppler ultrasonography of the entire lower limb is the first-line imaging modality. But most EDs do not access to full-time radiologists which can lead to delayed diagnosis. ⋯ Although the results of this study indicate insufficient sensitivity of bedside three-point compression ultrasound performed by emergency medicine resident in diagnosis of lower limb DVT, the specificity, positive and negative predictive values and positive likelihood ratio were almost appropriate.

Study of Scientific Production of Community Medicines' Department Indexed in ISI Citation Databases.
In the scientometric, the main criterion in determining the scientific position and ranking of the scientific centers, particularly the universities, is the rate of scientific production and innovation, and in all participations in the global scientific development. One of the subjects more involved in repeatedly dealt with science and technology and effective on the improvement of health is medical science fields. In this research using scientometric and citation analysis, we studied the rate of scientific productions in the field of community medicine, which is the numbers of articles published and indexed in ISI database from 2000 to 2010. ⋯ the obtained data showed the much growth of scientific production. The Tehran University of medical Sciences ranked the first in publishing articles in community medicine's department and with most collaboration with community medicine department of England writers in this field and most writers will present their works in paper format.

The commonest mitral regurgitation etiologies are degenerative (60%), rheumatic post-inflammatory, 12%) and functional (25%). Due to the large number of patients with acute MI, the incidence of ischaemic MR is also high. Ischaemic mitral regurgitation is a complex multifactorial disease that involves left ventricular geometry, the mitral annulus, and the valvular/subvalvular apparatus. Ischaemic mitral regurgitation is an important consequence of LV remodeling after myocardial infarction. ⋯ The presence of ischaemic MR is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Chronic IMR, an independent predictor of mortality with a reported survival of 40-60% at 5 years. Ischaemic mitral regurgitation has important prognosis implications in patients with coronary heart disease. Recognizing the mechanism of valve incompetence is an essential point for the surgical planning and for a good result of the mitral repair. It is important that echocardiographers understand the complex nature of the condition. Despite remarkable progress in reparative surgery, further investigation is still necessary to find the best approach to treat ischaemic mitral regurgitation.

The aim of this study was to provide insight into the acceptance and publication times of articles submitted to international otolaryngology journals. ⋯ The expedition of these processes over time might result from journals' ability to use technology more intensively or from increases in journal's capacity and number of issues published.

Cardiac patients are more prone to develop hemodynamic instability on induction of anesthesia and endotracheal intubation. The Airtraq(®) optical laryngoscope is a single-use rigid video laryngoscope that has been developed to facilitate tracheal intubation. There are limited studies comparing differences in the circulatory responses to Airtraq(®) and direct Macintosh larynngoscopy in cardiac patients. ⋯ The Airtraq(®) laryngoscope performed better than the Macintosh laryngoscope in terms of hemodynamic to the patient undergoing routine coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
