Return to Play and Performance Perceptions of Baseball Players After Isolated SLAP Tear Repair.
Variable return-to-play (RTP) rates have been reported after surgical repair of superior labral anterior-posterior (SLAP) tears in baseball players. Many studies, however, have not controlled for concomitant shoulder injuries. ⋯ After the surgical repair of isolated type II or greater SLAP tears, other position players displayed superior RTP (91.3% vs 80.0%, respectively) and RTPP (78.3% vs 52.3%, respectively) rates than pitchers. Long-term follow-up suggests that pitchers may perceive greater long-term impairments than other position players and are less likely to return to their previous or higher performance level.

Do Female Athletes Return to Sports After Hip Preservation Surgery for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome?: A Comparative Analysis.
Female patients undergoing surgery for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) often experience inferior clinical outcomes and higher failure rates when compared with male patients. The influence of athletic status on hip arthroscopic outcomes in female patients, however, is unclear. ⋯ Among female patients undergoing hip arthroscopic surgery for FAIS, patients considered athletes achieved superior clinical outcomes compared with patients considered nonathletes. In addition, younger female athletes had higher rates of achieving the MCID and PASS for all PRO measures.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Grading System for Tears of the Latissimus Dorsi and Teres Major.
Recent awareness of latissimus dorsi/teres major (LD/TM) injuries has led to an increase in diagnoses. No magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) classification system specific to the LD/TM exists, nor has tear severity been correlated with ability to return to sport (RTS). ⋯ The proposed MRI-based grading system for LD/TM tears had excellent reliability. This system may allow physicians to better advise patients and all involved health care providers. Consideration should be given to acutely treat grade III and IV tears with operative repair.

Lumbar Spine Injuries in National Collegiate Athletic Association Athletes: A 6-Season Epidemiological Study.
Lumbar spine injuries in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes have not been well studied. ⋯ The rate of lumbar spine injuries was high in NCAA athletes, and injuries commonly recurred (20%). In general, men were more likely to sustain a lumbar spine injury compared with women. Higher injury rates occurred during competition and via a noncontact mechanism of injury. In addition to prevention programs, reconditioning programs should be considered to prevent these injuries.

Establishing Clinically Significant Outcomes After Meniscal Allograft Transplantation.
Traditionally, the primary outcome in meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) has been long-term survivorship; however, short-term clinically significant outcomes are necessary to fully evaluate patient improvement after surgery. ⋯ This study established the MCID and PASS for the Lysholm score, IKDC, and KOOS in patients undergoing MAT. Workers' compensation and higher BMI were associated with failing to achieve clinically significant values. Lower preoperative Lysholm, IKDC, and KOOS scores were predictive of achieving the MCID, while higher preoperative SF PCS scores were associated with achieving satisfaction after MAT.
