Subscapularis Repair During Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty Using a Stem-Based Double-Row Repair: Sonographic and Clinical Outcomes.
Treatment of the subscapularis in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) is a controversial topic, with conflicting evidence regarding outcomes after repair. ⋯ Subscapularis repair using a stem-based double-row repair technique during RTSA demonstrated an overall healing rate of 83.3%, as evidenced by ultrasound examination at short-term follow-up. Integrity of subscapularis repair did not affect clinical outcome or ROM.

Clinical Outcomes After Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction With Suture Fixation of the Gracilis Tendon via Transosseous Tunnels.
Several fixation methods have been introduced in medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction. However, the optimal management of patients with recurrent patellar dislocation remains controversial. ⋯ In patients with chronic recurrent patellar dislocation, transosseous patellar suture fixation for MPFL reconstruction can significantly improve patellar stability and achieve good results at short-term follow-up.

Assessment of Disability Related to Hip Dysplasia Using Objective Measures of Physical Performance.
Lower extremity physical performance measures (PPMs), which can objectively quantify functional ability, are an attractive adjuvant to patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments. However, few tests have been validated for use in hip instability. ⋯ Patients with symptomatic hip dysplasia demonstrated significant impairment on functional testing compared with asymptomatic controls, and performance measure testing demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability. Timed stair ascent and sit-to-stand testing in particular were correlated strongly with physical function PRO instruments. PPMs may be a viable and well-received adjuvant to PRO instrument administration for patients with nonarthritic hip conditions, and investigation of the ability of PPMs to assess surgical outcomes for hip dysplasia is warranted.

Knee Arthroscopic Surgery in Middle-Aged Patients With Meniscal Symptoms: A 5-Year Follow-up of a Prospective, Randomized Study.
Arthroscopic meniscal surgery is a common orthopaedic procedure in middle-aged patients, but the efficacy of this procedure has been questioned. In this study, we followed up the only randomized controlled trial that has shown a 1-year benefit from knee arthroscopic surgery with an exercise program compared with an exercise program alone. ⋯ NCT01288768 (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier).

Isolated Lateral Chronic Exertional Compartment Syndrome of the Leg: A New Entity?
Chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) mostly occurs in the anterior or deep posterior compartments (ant-CECS and dp-CECS, respectively) of the leg. It is generally accepted that CECS of the third or lateral compartment (lat-CECS) always occurs together with ant-CECS. However, whether exertional leg pain (ELP) can be caused by an isolated form of lat-CECS is unknown. ⋯ Seven percent of patients with CECS and anterolateral ELP who had symptoms due to isolated lat-CECS in the presence of normal muscle pressure in the anterior compartment.
