P53-mediated cell cycle arrest and apoptosis through a caspase-3- independent, but caspase-9-dependent pathway in oridonin-treated MCF-7 human breast cancer cells.
To study the caspase-3-independent mechanisms in oridonin-induced MCF-7 human breast cancer cell apoptosis in vitro. ⋯ DNA damage provoked alternations in the mitochondrial and caspase-9 pathways as well as p53-mediated cell cycle arrest, but was not related to caspase-3 activity in oridonin-induced MCF-7 cells.

Activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase during silibinin-protected, isoproterenol-induced apoptosis in rat cardiac myocytes is tyrosine kinase pathway-mediated and protein kinase C-dependent.
To investigate the mechanism of silibinin-protected isoproterenol-induced apoptosis in rat cardiac myocytes. ⋯ Silibinin is suggested to protect isoproterenol-induced rat cardiac myocyte apoptosis by activating the tyrosine kinase pathway, PKC and MAPK pathways.

Modulation of inflammation-related genes of polysaccharides fractionated from mycelia of medicinal basidiomycete Antrodia camphorata.
To investigate the effect of water soluble-ethanol precipitation fraction (AC-1) and alkaline extraction-isoelectric precipitation fraction (AC-2) from Antrodia camphorata (Polyporaceae, Aphyllophorales) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced gene activation in mouse macrophages. ⋯ It was suggested that alkaline extraction-isoelectric precipitated the polysaccharide fraction of A camphorata and had the ability to inhibit LPS-induced iNOS, IL-6, IL-10, MCP-5, and RANTES expression in mouse macrophages.

Interaction between hydrogen sulfide/cystathionine gamma-lyase and carbon monoxide/heme oxygenase pathways in aortic smooth muscle cells.
To investigate the interaction between hydrogen sulfide (H2S)/cystathionine gamma-lyase (CSE) and carbon monoxide (CO)/heme oxygenase (HO) pathways in aortic smooth muscle cells (ASMC). ⋯ The results suggested that endogenous CO/HO and H2S/CSE pathways inhibited each other in ASMC under physiological conditions.

Involvement of mitochondria and caspase pathways in N-demethyl-clarithromycin-induced apoptosis in human cervical cancer HeLa cell.
To study the mechanisms by which N-demethyl-clarithromycin (NDC) induces human cervical cancer HeLa cell apoptosis in vitro. ⋯ N-demethyl-clarithromycin induced apoptosis in HeLa cells via the mitochondrial pathway.
