Intrathecal administration of Cav3.2 and Cav3.3 antisense oligonucleotide reverses tactile allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia in rats following chronic compression of dorsal root of ganglion.
The present study aimed to elucidate the role of T-subtype calcium channels (Cav3.1, Cav3.2, and Cav3.3) in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain at spinal level. ⋯ Cav3.2 and Cav3.3 subtype calcium channels in the spinal cord may play an important role in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain, which may contribute to the management of the neuropathic pain.

ReviewErythropoietin and cerebral vascular protection: role of nitric oxide.
Cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a major clinical problem causing cerebral ischemia and infarction. The pathogenesis of vasospasm is related to a number of pathological processes including endothelial damage and alterations in vasomotor function leading to narrowing of arterial diameter and a subsequent decrease in cerebral blood flow. ⋯ Recent studies have identified the role of EPO in vascular protection mediated by the preservation of endothelial cell integrity and stimulation of angiogenesis. In this review, we discuss the EPO-induced activation of endothelial nitric oxide (NO) synthase and its contribution to the prevention of cerebral vasospasm.

Effects of resveratrol and methylprednisolone on biochemical, neurobehavioral and histopathological recovery after experimental spinal cord injury.
To investigate the neuroprotective effect of resveratrol in an experimental spinal cord injury (SCI) model in rats. ⋯ Resveratrol treatment revealed better biochemical recovery in the acute stage of trauma than MP treatment. Although resveratrol and combined treatment revealed better neurobehavioral recovery than MP treatment; resveratrol, MP, and combined treatment modalities improved histopathological recovery at the same level in the final stage of the experiment. Future studies involving different doses of resveratrol and different doses combinations with MP could promise better results as each drug has a different anti-oxidative mechanism of action.

Sodium hydrosulfide alleviated pulmonary vascular structural remodeling induced by high pulmonary blood flow in rats.
To explore the possible role of endogenous hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S), a novel gasotransmitter, in the pathogenesis of pulmonary vascular structural remodeling (PVSR) induced by high pulmonary blood flow. ⋯ H(2)S exerted a regulatory effect on PVSR induced by high pulmonary blood flow. Meanwhile, H(2)S down-regulated the ERK/MAPK signal pathway, inhibited the NO/NOS pathway and enhanced the CO/HO pathway in rats with high pulmonary blood flow.

Influence of age and sex on pharmacodynamics of propofol in neurosurgical patients: model development.
To determine propofol concentration in the cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) of neurosurgical patients and carry out a preliminary population pharmacodynamic study. ⋯ Linear additive, linear exponential and sigmoid E(max) models can be used to describe the pharmacodynamics of propofol with respect to the concentration in CSF. In this small population, age (17-74 years), weight (47-98 kg) and sex did not influence any of the pharmacodynamic parameters of propofol. To verify these preliminary results, a larger study population is required.
