Multicenter StudyEffects of various antimicrobial stewardship programs on antimicrobial usage and resistance among common gram-negative bacilli causing health care-associated infections: A multicenter comparison.
The effects of various antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) on both antibiotic consumption and resistance among different hospitals within the same insurance system have rarely been investigated. ⋯ This interhospital comparison suggested that hospital-wide preauthorization program is the most effective to reduce key gram-negative bacilli resistance, with the exception of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii.

Anti-quorum sensing activity of flavonoid-rich fraction from Centella asiatica L. against Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1.
Inhibition of quorum sensing (QS), a cell-density dependent regulation of gene expression in bacteria by autoinducers is an attractive strategy for the development of antipathogenic agents. ⋯ The anti-QS nature of C. asiatica herb can be further exploited for the formulation of drugs targeting bacterial infections where pathogenicity is mediated through QS.

Case ReportsTigecycline therapy for bacteremia and aortitis caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Choleraesuis: A case report.
Non-typhoid Salmonella species represent a significant cause of aortitis. Few antimicrobial agents can be used when the patient is allergic or intolerable to cephalosporins or fluoroquinolones. Here, we report a case of bacteremia and aortitis caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Choleraesuis. This patient was cured by initial parenteral tigecycline and subsequent oral ciprofloxacin without surgical intervention.
