Effect of intravenous lidocaine on heart rate, systolic arterial blood pressure and cough responses to endotracheal intubation in propofol-anaesthetized dogs.
To evaluate the effect of intravenous lidocaine on coughing and variations in heart rate (HR) and systolic arterial pressure (SAP) at endotracheal intubation in propofol-anaesthetized dogs. ⋯ Intravenous lidocaine had no effect on the occurrence or intensity of coughing or on changes in SAP at endotracheal intubation in dogs anaesthetized with propofol. The use of 1 mg kg(-1) lidocaine intravenously before intubation in dogs to attenuate cough and the pressor response was not supported.

Effects of acepromazine on the cardiovascular actions of dopamine in anesthetized dogs.
To evaluate the effects of acepromazine maleate on the cardiovascular changes induced by dopamine in isoflurane-anesthetized dogs. ⋯ Previous acepromazine administration reduces the efficacy of dopamine as a vasopressor agent in isoflurane anesthetized dogs. Other beneficial effects of dopamine such as increased CO are not modified by acepromazine.

Use of ephedrine and dopamine in dogs for the management of hypotension in routine clinical cases under isoflurane anesthesia.
To determine the cardiovascular responses of ephedrine and dopamine for the management of presurgical hypotension in anesthetized dogs. ⋯ In anesthetized hypotensive dogs, ephedrine and dopamine improved cardiac output and oxygen delivery. However, the pressure-elevating effect of ephedrine is transient, while an infusion of dopamine at 10 microg kg(-1) minute(-1) improved MAP significantly by additionally maintaining TPR.

To investigate the viscoelastic properties of lungs and thoracic wall in piglets. ⋯ Viscoelastic properties of the lung and thoracic wall in piglets can be described by a viscoelastic model. Values of parameters of this model were markedly increased in ALI and decreased with PEEP.

An 18-month-old Lurcher was anaesthetized for surgical ligation of a patent ductus arteriosus using a target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol and a variable rate infusion of remifentanil. Before anaesthesia, radiographic and echocardiographic examination indicated that the dog had left-sided congestive heart failure and impaired left ventricular systolic function. Ramipril and furosemide were administered pre-operatively. ⋯ Tracheal intubation was performed and 100% oxygen delivered through a non-rebreathing (Bain) system and then a circle system in the operating theatre. Anaesthesia was maintained with propofol and remifentanil, adjusted according to clinical requirements. Peri-operative analgesia consisted of intercostal bupivacaine nerve block, with meloxicam, morphine and remifentanil.
