Observational Study
Clinical activity changes in the neurology department of Wenzhou during the COVID-19 pandemic: an observational analysis.
To explore the activity changes in neurology clinical practice that have occurred in tertiary public hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ The results of our study revealed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the clinical practice of neurology in Wenzhou during the outbreak. Understanding the pandemic's trends and impact on neurological patients and health systems will allow for better preparation of neurologists in the future.

Post-cardiac arrest myoclonus (PCAM) is a frequent finding in resuscitated patients after cardiac arrest (CA), with rather poor prognostic significance. In this study, we evaluated the association of PCAM within intensive care unit (ICU) mortality from a university hospital CA patients' registry. ⋯ PCAM was observed in nearly one-third of CA patients admitted in ICU. Patients with PCAM had a significantly higher likelihood of ICU mortality and a low likelihood of a good outcome. The prognostic value of PCAM seems rather bleak but remains nuanced and merits study in larger-scale prospective studies taking into account confounding factors.

Neurological manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019: exploring past to understand present.
SARS-CoV-2 infection, resulting in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has significantly affected the entire world. It was labelled a pandemic by World Health Organization. Although it commonly produces respiratory symptoms, neurological features have been described. ⋯ Considering structural and pathogenetic similarity of SARS-CoV-2 with SARS-CoV and MERS viruses, we compared their neurological manifestations and mentioned few features expected in COVID-19 in future. Interestingly, many COVID-19 cases may present with pure neurological manifestations at onset with non-neurological features manifesting few days later and we propose the term "Neuro-COVID syndrome" for such cases. Awareness of neurological manifestations may facilitate its management and improve outcome in such patients.

As a gut microbiota-dependent metabolite, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) has been implicated in cardiovascular diseases. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the clinical outcomes and plasma TMAO concentrations in patients with acute intracerebral hemorrhage. ⋯ The present study demonstrated that increased TMAO levels were independently correlated with 3-month function outcome after intracerebral hemorrhage.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1 (CMT1) and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) have distinct clinical and neurophysiological features that result from dysmyelination in CMT1 and macrophage-mediated segmental demyelination in CIDP. CMT1 may occur in genetically isolated cases with atypical presentations that converge phenotypically with CIDP; in rare cases, however, CMT1 may be complicated by superimposed CIDP. We report the case of a patient harboring a de novo heterozygous null mutation of the myelin protein zero (MPZ) gene and affected by subclinical CMT1B who became symptomatic due to superimposed CIDP. Peripheral nerve high-resolution ultrasound (HRUS) aided in establishing the coexistence of CMT1B and CIDP; the diagnosis was further supported by favorable clinical, neurophysiological, and ultrasound responses to immunoglobulin therapy.
