[Differences in the dynamics of leptin and cortisol during the non-infectious stress reaction].
Leptin is a hormone and acute phase reactant with multiple effects during both rest and inflammatory period. Effects of leptin in acute phase response cover a modulation of hypothalamo-pituitoadrenal (HPA) axis, too. In our study we evaluate the dynamics of leptin and glucocorticoid acute changes in model situations of infectious and non-infectious inflammatory reaction. ⋯ The elevation of leptin in postoperative period and during sepsis reflects a different regulation of this protein in rest period and during systemic inflammatory response. The inhibitory effect of leptin to HPA axis during stress response was documented in vitro, however, its physiological importance is not clear, yet. Our study didn't prove a statistically significant relation between plasma cortisol and leptin. The different dynamics of leptin and cortisol after surgical trauma shows that both factors have own specific regulation.

[Sleep disorders in patients treated with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis].
A lot of patients with end stage renal disease with the necessity of renal replacement therapy have some sleep problems. The aim of this study was to get basic information about the sleep of patients treated with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), mainly their subjective view on their sleep, including comparison with hemodialyzed patients (HD). ⋯ Occurrence of sleep disorders and their characteristics in patients on CAPD is similar to that in hemodialyzed patients.

[Chorioamnionitis and early-onset neonatal sepsis do not significantly affect levels of interleukin-6 in very low birth weight neonates].
To determine the influence of maternal chorioamnionitis and neonatal sepsis on interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels in cord blood and in blood obtained from very low birth weight (VLBW) infants within the first two hours of life. ⋯ IL-6 in cord blood or in neonatal blood within 2 hours of life was not enough sensitive and specific marker of maternal chorioamnionitis as well as for early-onset neonatal sepsis in the group of very low birth weight infants.

Case Reports[Thrombectomy and embolectomy using the adherent clot catheter].
The efficacy of the Adherent Cloth Catheter is demonstrated on the three above described cases. The different mechanism of function on contrary to the classic Fogarty Catheter enables us to remove the older, strongly adherent thrombus from prothesis, artery or vein. The catheter is a functional instrument not only for vascular surgery, but also for invasive angiology.
