Conscious sedation compared to general anesthesia for intracranial mechanical thrombectomy: A meta-analysis.
Endovascular therapy is the standard of care for severe acute ischemic stroke caused by large-vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation, but there is a debate on the optimal anesthetic approach during this therapy. Meta-analyses of observational studies suggest that general anesthesia increases disability and death compared with conscious sedation However, their results are conflicting. This meta-analysis study was performed to assess the relationship between the effects of general anesthesia compared to conscious sedation during endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ General anesthesia has no independent relationship compared to conscious sedation during the endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke with a relative relationship favoring general anesthesia only in decreasing the symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage. This relationship encouraged us to recommend either anesthetic strategy during the endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke with no possible fear of higher complication.

To investigate changes of vision-related resting-state activity in pituitary adenoma (PA) patients with visual improvement after transsphenoidal surgery. ⋯ The results show most subareas within the visual cortex exhibit decreased functional connectivity. The functional changes in subareas within default mode network (DMN), action observation network (AON) and the multisensory system in PAs propose that vision improvement may lead to function remodeling in higher-order cortex.

Observational Study
Longitudinal changes in anxiety and psychological distress, and associated risk and protective factors during the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany.
The COVID-19 pandemic is related to multiple stressors and therefore may be associated with psychological distress. The aim of this study was to longitudinally assess symptoms of (un-)specific anxiety and depression along different stages of the pandemic to generate knowledge about the progress of psychological consequences of the pandemic and to test the role of potential risk and resilience factors that were derived from cross-sectional studies and official recommendations. ⋯ Our findings provide insight into the longitudinal changes of symptoms of psychological distress along the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. Furthermore, we were able to reaffirm the anticipated protective and risk factors that were extracted from previous studies and recommendations.

We aim to explore the differential presence of symptoms of anxiety, depression, and acute stress between men and women during the COVID-19 outbreak, and to study the relationship between these symptoms and two environmental variables, coexistence, and violence. ⋯ Findings indicate that women present greater severity in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and acute stress. Moreover, loneliness and violence specifically worsen the emotional state in women. These results can undoubtedly guide better healthcare planning adopting a gender perspective.
