Enhanced Recovery After Surgery in elective hip and knee arthroplasty reduces length of hospital stay.
Standardized perioperative care within an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programme aims to reduce postoperative morbidity and length of hospital stay (LOS). This study evaluated the effect of ERAS in patients undergoing elective, primary total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA) in a New Zealand public hospital. ⋯ ERAS in THA and TKA has been shown to be safe and effective in improving recovery through shorter hospital stay.

Endoscopic self-expandable metallic stenting for palliation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction in Southeast Asia.
Malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) is a pre-terminal event in the natural history of gastric and pancreaticobiliary cancers. The use of endoscopic placement of self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) is a less invasive alternative palliative option for these patients. This is the first study in Southeast Asia to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of endoscopic SEMS placement in patients with malignant GOO. ⋯ Endoscopic SEMS placement is a minimally invasive, safe and effective option for the palliation of malignant GOO.
