Population ageing is projected to impact on health services utilisation including Emergency Departments (ED), with older patients reportedly having a high rate of return visits. We describe and compare patterns in ED utilisation between older and younger adults, and quantify the proportion and rate of return visits. ⋯ Older patients are disproportionately represented among ED attendances. They also have an increasing propensity to re-present to ED, indicating a need to identify the clinical, social and health system-related risk factors for re-attendance by specific patients.

Multicenter StudyAttitudes and views of the general public towards research participation.
While the challenges of recruitment into clinical trials are well described, little is known about the public's perceptions towards research. ⋯ Attitudes of the public towards research participation are beleaguered by misconceptions. Stakeholders in clinical research must educate the general public regarding research methods and ethics.

Mycoplasma genitalium: prevalence in men presenting with urethritis to a South Australian public sexual health clinic.
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Mycoplasma genitalium infection among male patients with dysuria and/or urethral discharge. An analysis of the clinical, demographic and microbiological factors associated with M. genitalium infection was also conducted. ⋯ In Adelaide, M. genitalium is an important sexually transmitted infection among men with dysuria and/or urethral discharge, and is primarily an infection of heterosexual and bisexual men.
