Case ReportsA case of widespread non-pigmented hair regrowth in diffuse alopecia areata.
A 62-year-old woman presented with diffuse alopecia areata affecting more than 50% of her scalp hairs with sparing of non-pigmented hairs. She was treated with a 2-month course of oral prednisolone and extensive hair regrowth occurred. ⋯ As a result, the patient's hair colour is now strikingly and completely white, with a normal hair density. This response has been sustained for 6 months after cessation of treatment.

Genetic analysis of a family with hereditary glomuvenous malformations.
Glomuvenous malformations (MIM 138000) are rare vascular malformations consisting of glomus cells, and in affected individuals, lesions may appear in any number anywhere on the body. We analysed the DNA of one family with hereditary glomuvenous malformations and identified the mutation causing the disease in the glomulin gene on chromosome 1 p22. ⋯ This mutation has been found in Europe, the USA and Australia, suggesting a founder effect with common ancestry. Thus far, no second-hit mutation for the 157delAAGAA mutation has been identified.

A 57-year-old man, with a 2-year history of Crohn's disease, presented with a rapidly progressive abdominal ulcer. It was clinically and histologically consistent with pyoderma gangrenosum but it did not respond to either high-dose oral prednisolone or intravenous hydrocortisone. ⋯ His bowel symptoms, which flared a few weeks prior to the onset of pyoderma gangrenosum, only partially improved. Despite six infliximab infusions, the inflammatory bowel disease is poorly controlled, whereas the pyoderma gangrenosum remains healed.

Case ReportsUnusual case of lymphoedema in a morbidly obese patient.
A morbidly obese 57-year-old woman presented with dermatological complications of obesity including cellulitis and severe localized lymphoedema of the right leg. There were two large pedunculated masses on the right lateral thigh with early involvement of the left and overlying skin changes of chronic lymphoedema. Our patient's condition is clinically consistent with a new entity recently described in the surgical pathology literature as massive localized lymphoedema.
